Triathlete reviews the Northumbrian for International Women’s Day
In celebration of International Women’s Day and the remarkable women who inspire us, we’re shining a spotlight on Emily (‘E’), a phenomenal triathlete and influencer who tackled the Northumbrian challenge last July.
As half of the dynamic duo known to their Instagram followers as ‘Twice The Health,’ Emily and her partner have cultivated a strong following in the running community by inspiring others to pursue their passions – whether it’s running, marathon training, or all things fitness-related. They generously share recipes, training plans, and advice for both novice runners and seasoned pros alike.
Last year, Emily embarked on the ultimate endurance challenge: the UK’s only middle-distance, cross-border triathlon, the Northumbrian. Documenting her entire journey on the TTH Instagram, Emily provided followers with a comprehensive look into the preparation and race day experience.
The day before the race, Emily excitedly picked up her race pack, which included essentials like her race number, swim cap, and other branded goodies. She carefully arranged her gear and dropped off her bike at transition, preparing for the early start the next morning.
The race day kicked off with a 1.2-mile swim, and despite some pre-race nerves, Emily bravely dove into the water with her fellow athletes. Her dedicated support crew captured footage of her completing the swim leg before transitioning to the challenging 56-mile cycle course, which traverses the picturesque Scottish border.
“I now know why they call it the UK’s most beautiful triathlon, it lived up to every word!”
Despite encountering quad cramping during the 13.1-mile run, Emily pressed on, drawing strength from the stunning scenery along the route. “Quads were so unhappy for lap 1 of the run,” she candidly shared with her followers. “But the stunning route helped to distract me.”
Crossing the finish line with a triumphant smile and hands raised high, Emily exhibited nothing but pure relief following the gruelling endurance challenge she had just conquered, soon followed by pure joy. Her experience was thoroughly enjoyed, and she even managed to capture a few finish-line photos to commemorate her achievement.
Well done, Emily! Your determination and resilience have truly earned you the title of a Northumbrian. To catch Emily’s full Northumbrian review and keep up with all her adventures alongside her pal H, be sure to follow Twice the Health on Instagram and visit their website. 🏊♀️🚴♀️🏃♀️
